The Arthur Boskamp-Stiftung is a non-profit organization that fosters visual art and culture through a focus on contemporary art (M.1 kuratieren) and community-based practices with and from the local area (M.1 Lokal). Two Advancement Awards are granted every two years for art related to northern Germany. The foundation was established in 2003 from the estate of Arthur Boskamp and opened its space M.1 – a former military barrack – in 2007. It hosts international artists, theorists, curators, and cultural practitioners in Hohenlockstedt, Schleswig-Holstein. The team works from Hohenlockstedt and Berlin.
The position of Artistic Director is appointed every two years in the program M.1 kuratieren. With each turn, new focuses are set and new formats, publics, relationships, and questions evolve. They become part of an institutional narrative that constantly grows and shifts, while combining an international orientation with local cultural work and a high consciousness for the rural environment.
