As one of the nation’s leading interdisciplinary research universities, from its 300-acre tree-lined campus in Houston, Texas, Rice offers more than 50 undergraduate majors spanning six divisions of study, including architecture, engineering, humanities, music, natural sciences and social sciences. Additionally, minors, interdisciplinary and preprofessional programs complement a comprehensive curriculum, with multiple opportunities for research and collaboration.
The Department of Art aims to cultivate creativity by involving the full spectrum of Rice University students: scientists, architects, historians, engineers and economists, among many others, augment the core of arts majors to create a diverse, lively forum of artists and thinkers. The department believes this composite community is a vital asset to majors and non-majors alike: art thrives in contact with new and varied perspectives, and the risk-taking and critical thinking necessary to making art are crucial in many other fields.
