Founded in 2018, the Kunstverein im Kloster Neuzelle is a forum for civic exchange on questions that arise from today’s perspective when considering the ideas of social design underlying Neuzelle Monastery and the planned city of Eisenhüttenstadt. In this field of tension between two opposing but closely related concepts, the Kunstverein develops and organizes contemporary art projects, but also discussion forums that bring together scholars from different disciplines. The Kunstverein’s aim is to develop and present the high potential of the regional context for artistic and theoretical debate on an international level, while at the same time addressing a local audience that reflects this discourse in the local context. The Kunstverein does not work with its own exhibition space, but conceives and organizes projects together with various partners, which are developed in site- and situation-specific environments.
