Verein K is an independent organization with a focus on projects that critically engage with contemporary art and culture based in Vienna.
It was founded in 2017 by three people who share a belief in critical discourse and the aim of making contemporary art and criticism more inclusive while maintaining high quality standards.
To foster critical approaches to contemporary art, Verein K has developed different formats across three programs. Crit Cross. A Forum on Art Criticism, a platform for critical reading and exchange, promotes artistic and socio-critical dialogue in Vienna with events taking place in Viennese art and cultural institutions (mumok, Belvedere 21, Depot, Kunsthalle Wien, Secession). And two annual programs: Visiting Curators Vienna, a residency for international curators; and Visiting Critics Vienna, a residency for international art critics interested in exploring Vienna‘s contemporary art scene.
Furthermore, in collaboration with Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Verein K started the Spring Curatorial Program, an annual interdisciplinary program consisting of seminars, screenings, discussions, site/studio visits and public lectures with focus on art-based research and theory.
