Hochschule für Gestaltung (HfG) Offenbach is the Hessen State University of Art and Design. Its tradition stretches back to the year 1832 when it was established as a craftsman’s school. Shortly afterwards it became a school of arts and crafts, a place where both practical arts and crafts and theoretical subjects were taught at the same time. In 1970, the school was transformed into a higher education establishment with university status.
With reference to the training and research models of the Bauhaus and the Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm, the HfG Offenbach practices future-oriented teaching, much of which is based on individual one-on-one supervision and mentorship: Art, media and design are taught in a modular study structure.
The following degree programmes are offered in the two Schools of Art and Design:
School of Art
- Bachelor of Fine Arts
- Master of Fine Arts
- Master of Fine Arts with a larger theoretical component
School of Design
- Bachelor of Arts
- Master of Arts
The ten-semester courses are supplemented by a comprehensive theoretical program in both departments.
In addition, graduates from the fields of art, design, media or related sciences are offered the opportunity to obtain a doctorate (Dr. phil.).
