The Teatro dell’architettura Mendrisio, built on the Mendrisio Campus of the Università della Svizzera italiana, designed by architect Mario Botta, is a multipurpose space devoted to the debate on architecture, landscape and the city. Alongside the teaching and research already conducted at the university, the activities of the Teatro dell’architettura Mendrisio supplement the educational offerings with exhibitions, performances, seminars and conferences, giving visibility to the transdisciplinary interests that contribute to the redefinition of the role of architecture in society.
Open to a broad local and international public, in 2020 the Teatro dell’architettura Mendrisio, together with the Museo Vincenzo Vela di Ligornetto, the Pinacoteca Giovanni Züst in Rancate, the m.a.x. museo in Chiasso and the Museo d’arte Mendrisio established the Mendrisiotto Art Museums Network. Since 2022, the Teatro dell’architettura Mendrisio has been a member of the Association of Swiss Museums – AMS (with some 800 institutional members, the AMS represents the interests of the whole category of Swiss museums and exhibition venues in relation to the authorities and the public). Since 2024, TAM has been a member of the International Confederation of Architectural Museums – ICAM.
