A three-day celebration of art, the Brick + Mortar festival brought international video art installations, large scale outdoor projections, and performances to downtown Greenfield, Massachusetts, for an annual, one-of-a-kind art happening.
The festival gave local curators and international artists the unique opportunity to experiment in the public domain as artists and audiences alike explored every corner of Greenfield’s downtown, including historic buildings in various states of renovation and rediscovery. Presented annually from 2009 until 2012, the festival grew from a grassroots effort led by its founders, artist Bradley McCallum and curator Natasha Becker, to a large public art platform eventually attracting over 5,000 visitors for one vibrant weekend each fall.
Produced by Conjunction Arts, festival partners and supporters included the Greenfield Business Association, Fostering the Arts and Culture Project, Greenfield Community College, the University Museum of Contemporary Art, Fine Arts Center, Umass Amherst, Greenfield building-owners, local businesses and the Mayor’s office.
