Alma Enterprises Gallery, located on Glasshill Street in Southwark, operated from its original space at 1 Vyner Street until its closure. Since its inception, Alma had been dedicated to working with artists engaged with the concept of performativity, encouraging a site-specific approach to the works shown.
The gallery showcased both established and emerging artists, adding to an impressive roster of past contributors such as Brian Catling, Hayley Newman, Michael Curran, William Hunt, Suzanne Treister, William Daniels, Ludo Mich, Jem Finer, Kim Noble, Thomas Altheimer, Gayle Chong Kwan, David Blandy, Laura Parnes, AKA Joey, Fritz Welch, Chris Peck, allsopp&weir, Rod Dickinson, Katie Cuddon, Jennet Thomas, and Paul Tarrago.
Alma Enterprises operated with a clear mission: to provide artists the space and opportunity to create new works through long-term engagement with the gallery space. As a non-profit gallery, its key focus was always to support the development of contemporary art. The gallery was supported by the Artists’ Studio Company, playing an important role in fostering creativity and innovation in the arts community.
