The Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg sees itself in the light of a creative laboratory committed to open research. Founded in 1662, it is the oldest art academy in the German-speaking world.
It primarily focuses on fine and applied arts, and on art teacher training. As a university with strong international focus the academy endeavours to cover all contemporary art forms and approaches, and to set them in the relevant social and historical-critical context. Training is based on fostering students’ individual talents. Study is aimed at acquiring individual skills and improving theoretical and practical proficiency. Artistic techniques are taught in studios equipped to a high standard.
The student body currently numbers around 300 persons, and the academy’s staff-to-student ratio is excellent. Visiting professorships enrich the wide spectrum of artistic endeavour at the academy.
