In 2016, Serpentine Galleries launches The Magazine Sessions, a new series of immersive performances programmed in collaboration with Fiorucci Art Trust and taking place in the Zaha Hadid-designed space of The Magazine at the Serpentine Sackler Gallery.
The Magazine Sessions invites artists to devise site-specific evenings of performance, where all aspects of the experience are considered. Events range from specially-conceived, collaborative music and theatre performances to immersive environments to be explored and activated by the visitor. As part of the concept for The Magazine Sessions, artists will devise unique menus of food and drink, in collaboration with The Magazine restaurant.
The Sessions begin on Monday, February 15 with A Woodland Truce, an installation and performance by 2014 Bloomberg New Contemporary-exhibited artist Matt Copson, whose work addresses fable, myth and philosophy through light installations, sculpture and sound. A Woodland Truce includes music by producer and composer Felicita and vocal performances by Musarc.
The 2016 Magazine Sessions are:
Monday, February 15: Matt Copson
Monday, March 21: Karl Holmqvist
Monday, April 18: Emily Sundblad
Monday, May 16: Celia Hempton
Monday, November 21: Christian Holstad
Monday, December 12: Anthea Hamilton
Doors open 8pm. During the run of exhibitions, the exhibition at the Serpentine Sackler Gallery can be viewed from 7:30pm. Please check the Serpentine website for information on upcoming exhibitions and opening dates. The Magazine Restaurant will remain open until 10pm for food and drink on the evenings of the Sessions.
