A bilingual digital resource on Latin American art
The Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros (CPPC) is pleased to announce the launch of the Cisneros Research Guide, a bilingual research tool that offers public access to a selection of over 200 digital assets from the CPPC Archives. Developed in collaboration with the CPPC and MoMA’s Archives, Library, and Research Collections, this new resource ensures the long-term accessibility of key materials related to Latin American art and culture.
This Research Guide presents materials from the CPPC’s website, alongside information about Mrs. Cisneros’s donations of art to MoMA’s art collection and the ongoing research and programming of the Cisneros Institute, a research center of Latin American Art within the Museum. The Research Guide will continue to incorporate new material from the CPPC, including future scholarship, publications, and digital assets in both English and español.
Since the early 2000s, the CPPC has pursued its research and outreach missions through its website, which featured audiovisual recordings of interviews with artists, scholarly talks and panels, and curator commentaries on works in the collection. In 2019, the CPPC and MoMA began conversations focused on the preservation of born-digital materials and the advancement of public access to art and cultural scholarship. As a result, in 2022, the CPPC donated a selection of digital media to MoMA, enabling their safeguarding through the Museum’s digital preservation tools. The Cisneros Research Guide builds upon this effort by providing centralized, bilingual access to a wealth of research materials, including audiovisual recordings, scholarly publications, and curated documentation of the CPPC’s programming. The platform features:
Research resources on CPPC donations: Insights into Patricia Phelps de Cisneros’ contributions and major donations to MoMA’s collection.
Resources from the Cisneros Institute: Programs, publications, and research initiatives from the Cisneros Institute at MoMA.
Artist interviews and talks: A selection of audiovisual recordings featuring artists, curators, and scholars.
Scholarly panels and presentations: Documented events from CPPC, including recordings from Seminario Fundación Cisneros and the Viewing Room series.
Free publications: Downloadable editions of the Conversaciones/Conversations series, a cornerstone of CPPC’s educational initiatives.
Further reading: Access to recommended books and scholarly materials from MoMA’s library.
We invite researchers, students, and art enthusiasts to explore the Cisneros Research Guide, a resource that reinforces CPPC’s commitment to advancing scholarship and expanding access to Latin American and Caribbean art.
