The hero, the villain and the truth
March 29–June 15
Folkert de Jong
Jesus and Mary in reverse roles. Queen Wilhelmina as a circus director. Snoop Dogg as a totem pole. With twisted versions of historical figures, Folkert de Jong shows how history could have gone differently and is still changing. He wants to make the viewer wonder how history is actually written and—with a changing zeitgeist—rewritten again.
Dark There, Joyful Here
March 29–August 17
Jonathan van Doornum (Fundatie Future Factory)
This is the first solo museum exhibition by Jonathan van Doornum. His sculptures, drawings and performances bring together technology, communication and magic. Van Doornum’s works are often made of cold materials like aluminum. He gives a soft, narrative power by shaping it, for example, into flames, curls or bows. In his most recent work, Van Doornum focuses mainly on the relationship between the city and the countryside.
Fundatie Collection: 80 Years of Freedom
March 29, 2025–February 1, 2026
In 2025, we remember the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, but in many places in the world war is still being waged today. In this exhibition, we show the impact of WW II on and in art, through different works from our collection including the ones Paul Citroen made during WW II, as he was hiding.
50 years Henk Heideveld
June 28–August 17
A selective retrospective into 50 years of career of Zwolle of postmodernist artist Henk Heideveld. An exhibition that highlights the versatility of Heideveld’s oeuvre, from texts, paintings and sculptures, to video and performances throughout five decades. Most Zwolle residents remember Heideveld as the man who walked across the arch of the Ijssel Bridge, and who went out with a suitcase full of money to hand out free banknotes.
At Home With Ter Borch
September 6, 2025–February 1, 2026
Artist family in Zwolle
Four hundred years ago, the city of Zwolle was home to one of the most important artistic families of the seventeenth century: the Ter Borch family, with world-famous descendants such as Gerard ter Borch the younger and Gesina ter Borch. From September 2025 we celebrate their legacy with the entire city. This special exhibition emphasizes the creative atmosphere within the family, where several family members developed artistic talents, from professional level to exceptional amateur art. Loans from around the world come “home” to Zwolle, forming a unique mix of paintings and drawings from the family. Read more..

Ivna Esajas

This exhibition is Ivna Esajas first museal solo in in the Netherlands. It displays a selection of new and existing works, mainly drawings on canvas with charcoal, pencil, paint and ink. Ivna works explore and follow shapes and interstices. She tries to make connections between the present and the past; between stories and memories that wander through the universe, woven through time. Stories about the connection between what is and what was, between seeing and feeling.
