Deadline: February 11, 2025
Last call for submissions: Holcim Foundation Awards 2025
Time is running out to submit your projects to the world’s most significant competition for sustainable design. The Holcim Foundation Awards 2025, with a prize pool of USD one million, is seeking client-supported projects in the late-stage design phase. The deadline to submit is fast approaching—February 11, 2025, at 2pm UTC.
The competition, organized by the Swiss-based Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction, is free to enter and open to projects of all scales. Eligible projects must be in the detailed design phase but not yet realized. Projects already under construction are also eligible, provided they are not completed before February 11, 2025. This competition is a unique opportunity to have your work recognized on a global stage for its innovation in sustainable design.
The Awards Ceremony will take place on November 20, 2025, at the Holcim Foundation Forum, coinciding with the Venice Biennale of Architecture. Winning teams will receive travel and accommodation to attend the ceremony, where they will present their projects to an international audience of leaders in sustainable architecture and construction.
Words with winners
In the lead-up to the 2025 competition, the Holcim Foundation launched a short-film series titled Words with Winners, which offers an intimate look into some of the most groundbreaking projects recognized in previous competitions. These films feature in-depth interviews with the creators of Holcim Foundation Award-winning projects, highlighting their design processes and the impact of their work.
Among the featured projects in Words with Winners is WOHA’s BRAC University Campus in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where “breathing architecture” fosters a healthier environment for a community of 20,000 students. This project demonstrates how architecture can shape urban development in a rapidly growing city like Dhaka. Another showcased project is the UCLA Margo Leavin Graduate Art Studios in Los Angeles, designed by Johnston Marklee. This adaptive reuse project exemplifies sustainability through the preservation of existing structures while introducing visionary new elements.
Additionally, the Cathédrale des Sports in France by NP2F Architects is featured, a multi-function building that creatively uses minimal materials while seamlessly integrating into the neighborhood it serves. These projects, recognized in past Holcim Foundation Awards, are prime examples of how architecture can positively impact communities and address global sustainability challenges.
