In November 2024, the Chinese-English bilingual website Connecting Asian Women Artists (CAWA), officially went online. This website is a non-profit organization and online platform dedicated to showcasing and promoting the creative and research works of contemporary Asian women artists. CAWA aims to establish a crucial database for understanding and studying the works of contemporary Asian women artists. Collaborating with artists, researchers, museums, and educational institutions in the relevant fields, CAWA seeks to present the works, concepts, and research of Asian women artists through thematic research, artistic projects, publications, and discussions. The platform will also allow the art community and the general public to explore the creativity of Asian women artists on the platform, thereby enhancing their visibility, highlighting their artistic contributions, and contributing to the digital preservation of the archives of Asian women artists.

CAWA was founded in 2024 by the CAWA Collective. Respecting cultural differences and individual expressions, the Collective is steadfast in its commitment to advancing conversations and development of Asian women artists. In its inaugural phase, CAWA aims to promote the development of women’s art through the following dimensions:

Creativity
Pioneering an online platform focused on and showcasing the creativity of Asian women artists.

Connection
Establishing a network encompassing creators, researchers, supporters, and organizations dedicated to the work of Asian women artists.

Curation
Curating multimedia projects and innovative presentations on the work and research of Asian women artists.

Community
Fostering communication, conversations, and collaboration centered on Asian women artists to cultivate a new artistic community.

In it’s initial phase, CAWA has begun focused research and data collation on Chinese women artists. In the future, it will expand to research and data on women artists in other regions of Asia, and will continually release documentary films, publications, awards, and other projects.

CAWA welcomes continued conversations with artists, researchers, and art institutions committed to the development of women in art. It also extends its invitation to scholars and research institutions focusing on women’s issues, as well as social organizations and enterprises dedicated to supporting the development of Asian women artists.
