The Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment at TU Delft proudly announces Georg Vrachliotis as the new Head of the Department of Architecture, effective February 1, 2025.

A visionary thinker and accomplished scholar, Georg Vrachliotis brings a deep understanding of the cultural and technological shifts shaping the 21st century to architectural history and theory. His work explores the intersections of architecture and the societal impacts of emerging technologies, fostering a critical dialogue between design, technology, and culture.

“I’m honoured to take on the role of Head of the Architecture Department at a time when we are facing major global challenges and embracing exciting new technologies,” said Georg Vrachliotis. “My aim is to support the next generation of architects, advance design research and education, and foster an open culture within our Department that unites people and strengthens our discipline. Let us work together with empathy and purpose to rethink architecture’s role in addressing the urgencies of our time.”

Professor Georg Vrachliotis has been a faculty member at TU Delft since 2021, leading the Design, Data and Society (DDS) Group, which critically explores how architecture evolves in the age of conversational technologies and global infrastructures. His influence extends beyond academia, shaping architectural curation and pioneering collaborative teams that redefine the boundaries of theory, practice, and innovation.

Georg Vrachliotis has curated exhibitions at leading institutions such as the S AM Swiss Architecture Museum, the Venice Architecture Biennale, the ZKM / Center for Art and Media, and the School of Architecture at Yale University. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of The New Open project and the author of The New Technological Condition, among other books.

With an academic career that began at ETH Zurich—where he expanded the horizons of architectural history and theory by integrating digital culture—Georg Vrachliotis brings a wealth of experience, a forward-thinking vision, and a collaborative spirit to his new role. Before joining TU Delft, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), where he also held the Chair for Architecture Theory.

TU Delft’s Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment is one of the world’s leading institutions for design and research, shaping innovative approaches to address the most pressing urgencies of our age. Georg Vrachliotis’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for the department, building on its legacy of excellence and driving its mission forward.
