Unlock your potential at the cutting edge of art and the moving image with the Contemporary Art and the Moving Image MA, a unique degree offered jointly by King’s College London and the Courtauld Institute of Art.

This innovative course merges the expertise of two prestigious institutions, offering rich perspectives across art history, film and media studies, curatorial practice, and digital art. You’ll explore the intersections of contemporary art, cinema, and visual culture, examining how film, video, and digital media shape today’s artistic landscape.

You’ll be within easy reach of London’s iconic cultural hubs like Tate, the British Film Institute, Institute of Contemporary Arts, and a variety of independent cinemas and galleries. With masterclasses, field trips and screenings you’ll build networks and position yourself for a successful career in the sector.

Over the course of the year, you’ll engage with this evolving discipline through perspectives provided by art history, film and media studies, exhibitions and curatorial practice, among other fields.

“We’re teaming up in a unique collaboration between two world-leading institutions, to study at the intersection of two specific fields—of contemporary art and the moving image.” Dr Jeff Scheible, MA Programme Convenor—King’s Department of Film Studies

The Contemporary Art and the Moving Image MA offers unparalleled preparation for students aspiring to shape the future of contemporary art and moving-image culture.
