Enrique Chagoya: Betty Jean and Wayne Thiebaud Lecture Series

Enrique Chagoya is a Mexican-born American painter, printmaker and educator. His prints, drawings, collages, and multiples offer critical commentary on the global reach of the United States and its cultural, political, and historical tensions with Latin America. Torkwase Dyson

Torkwase Dyson describes herself as a painter working across multiple mediums to explore the continuity between ecology, infrastructure, and architecture. Her abstract works examine human geography and the history of Black spatial liberation strategies. Dyson is the winter quarter spotlight artist in residence in The California Studio: Manetti Shrem Artist Residencies. Co-sponsored by the Manetti Shrem Museum.
Linda Sormin: Visiting Artist Lecture Series

Linda Sormin is a visual artist who creates sculptures and site-responsive installations using raw clay, fired ceramics, found objects and interactive methods. Her work explores themes of fragility, upheaval, and transformation that reflect her diasporic experiences. Co-sponsored by the Manetti Shrem Museum.

The Maria Manetti Shrem Art Studio Program at UC Davis challenges students to cultivate curiosity and sustain the courage to embrace the unknown through art. Arts students at the undergraduate and graduate level are encouraged to explore a broad range of disciplines and to participate in opportunities outside the classroom, including The California Studio: Manetti Shrem Artist Residencies, the Betty Jean and Wayne Thiebaud Lecture, the Visiting Artist Lecture Series, professional practice seminars, student exhibitions, competitions and internships. The department supports 14 generously funded MFA students and attracts students from all over the United States and the world.
