The School of Design within the Jarvis College of Computing and Digital Media at DePaul University is seeking candidates for an Assistant or Associate professor to begin in September 2025. Job responsibilities include teaching, research and creative practice, and providing service to the School of Design and the broader institution. We invite individuals eager to establish our school as a regional and national leader in design education. Led by DePaul’s Vincentian mission, we are focused on developing designers, makers, researchers, storytellers, and world-builders who leverage design and technology to transform lives and create a positive impact in both local and global communities. The successful candidate will be appointed as a faculty member in the School of Design and will have teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the area of Graphic Design, named a GDUSA top design school from 2019–24. Colleagues in the School of Design program are dedicated to mutual success and growth, and we are interested in someone who will add new dimensions to our programs.

Qualifications
Candidates are expected to be able to teach theoretical and practical hands-on undergraduate and graduate level graphic design courses, including design foundations and advanced topics. We are seeking candidates who can shape and build our graduate programs by developing curricula within graphic design and across disciplines and advising graduate students. Candidates should have teaching experience in a design-related field, a proven record of professional practice, and a well-developed creative research agenda in design.

We are seeking applicants who are motivated to lead school-wide initiatives and can foster collaboration with colleagues and students across disciplines. Qualified candidates will be able to contribute to our curriculum and enhance the research and creative opportunities for our students by bringing a design practice informed by an understanding of contemporary issues in design and society. We are interested in a wide range of contemporary practices of (e.g., visual design, UX, product design, digital fabrication, emerging technologies, prototyping, service design, etc.), especially interdisciplinary practices which intersect with a range of impactful topics (e.g., accessibility, AI, ethics, design justice, civics & politics, sustainability, etc.)

Candidates must have a terminal degree (e.g., MFA, MDes) in graphic design or related field. Exceptions are made for candidates who have already attained recognition for scholarly or other relevant professional achievements and who give promise of continued academic development.

Preferred, but not required, experience in one or more of the following includes: partnership building across academia, industry, and community organizations; grants and fundraising, and leading curriculum efforts including developing and launching graduate degrees.
