Upcoming 2025 exhibitions

In 2025, MAAT—Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, in Lisbon, will present ten exhibitions. The program brings together internationally renowned names and Portuguese artists with established careers, in the process of affirmation and revelation.

MAAT will host the first solo exhibition in Portugal by renowned photographer Jeff Wall, and one of the largest of his work to date. It will comprise 60 photographs produced over more than 40 years and will occupy the entire exhibition space of MAAT Gallery.

Also, Miriam Cahn will present her work for the first time in a solo exhibition in Portugal, following her participation in the Venice Biennale in 2022 and exhibitions at Palais de Tokyo, Paris, 2023, and Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, 2024. The exhibition will focus mainly on her recent work, particularly her paintings and drawings, and is the result of a collaboration with the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.

Another solo debut is Cerith Wyn Evans, whose practice explores how ideas can be communicated and reconfigured through different forms, materials, and media, including installation, sculpture, sound, photography, film, and text. 

It will also be the first time that Portuguese-French artist Isabelle Ferreira will show her work in Portugal, addressing issues of economic emigration (she herself is the daughter of Portuguese emigrants) or exile.

Rui Moreira’s first retrospective, an exhibition in partnership with Lisbon Architecture Triennale 2025, a survey exhibition of painter Pedro Casqueiro’s work, and exhibitions of Margarida Correia and Ana Léon’s works are also part of the museum’s program for next year.  

Also noteworthy is the group show featuring works by the six finalists for the EDP Foundation New Artists Award 2024: Alice dos Reis, Evy Jokhova, Francisco Trêpa, Inês Brites, Maja Escher, and Sara Chang Yan. These young artists were selected from around 600 applications, and, with this exhibition, an international jury will choose the winning artist. Winners from previous editions include Joana Vasconcelos, Leonor Antunes, Vasco Araújo, Carlos Bunga, João Maria Gusmão, Pedro Paiva, João Leonardo, André Romão, Gabriel Abrantes, Priscila Fernandes, Ana Santos, Mariana Silva, Claire de Santa Colomba, Diana Policarpo, and Adriana Proganó.
