Three-day programme connecting 15 contemporary art initiatives from across Albania
November 29–December 1, 2024, 8pm
The Albanian Visual Arts Network presents Tirana Art Weekend. Friday, November 29–Sunday, December 1, 2024.
The Albanian Visual Arts Network (AVAN) was formed in the spring of 2024, as the necessity to self-organize and represent the dynamic local art scene towards a regional and international audience increasingly became a priority. The Network was born with the purpose of becoming the leading platform for providing Albanian independent art institutions and local self-managed galleries, a united voice towards audiences and policy-makers, while nurturing a constellation of spaces which will allow the practices of emerging and established artists to flourish.
Tirana Art Weekend is the first public event of AVAN, bringing together major actors from the independent art scene, with a roster of exhibition spaces, cultural organizations, and local artistic collectives under a shared program, synchronized with the symbolically foundational Albanian Day of Independence.
In its inaugural edition, Tirana Art Weekend will present a diverse programme with 15 partners showcasing their approaches and inviting visitors, collectors, and professionals to engage with exquisite contemporary art projects and exhibitions, while spotlighting the work of compelling local and international artists.
The main center of Tirana Art Weekend is the headquarters of the Institute for the Integration of Former Political Victims. A beautiful newly-restored villa from Tirana’s architectural heritage from the beginning of the XX century. This location will accommodate initiatives that do not have a permanent physical location or which operate in other cities across Albania; while Tirana’s own galleries and project spaces will open their doors in a coordinated progression.

The Albanian Visual Arts Network (AVAN) was founded during the Vlora Art Meeting 2024 by key stakeholders of the visual arts scene of Albanian on 25 of May 2024. The network understands itself as a union of entities with diverse approaches but that share the same interest of operating and addressing their urgencies with the language of visual arts. AVAN works to ensure transparency within the network and in relations with institutions, to encourage artistic research, critical thinking and freedom of expression. The network works in solidarity with visual artists in Albania.
Tirana Art Weekend is supported by the Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation in the framework of International Cultural Weeks: Albanian and Kosovo Cultural Week, Raiffeisen Invest Albania and the European Union in Albania.
