At the Offenbach University of Art and Design (HfG), Hessen State Art University with doctoral-awarding authority. The position is set to begin in the Winter Semester 2025/2026. It is initially offered as a six-year contract.
The Offenbach University of Art and Design (HfG) fosters contemporary and forward-looking education, emphasizing an exchange between fine arts, applied arts, and theoretical disciplines across both the Art and Design departments.
We are seeking an interdisciplinary artist (m, f, d) with international recognition and a significant artistic practice that explores the concept of space in various forms.
We are seeking an artist who can activate and transform real-world and social spaces through both physical concepts and time-based artworks or socially engaged practices. Experience in curating and managing larger-scale projects is a plus. We welcome a variety of approaches related to artistic exploration of space, including: Physical spaces (outdoor environments, nature, architecture), Social spaces, Body-space relationships (embodied space), Sound-based concepts of space, as well as the fusion of real and virtual spaces. The use of innovative media is desired, but practices based purely on virtual space are not the focus of this invitation for submissions. We expressly seek candidates with a deep understanding of the physical and social dimensions of art, as well as relevant contemporary art discourses.
Job description
–Teach in the Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts programs, as well as in the concluding diploma program.
–Supervise final theses.
–Provide guidance to students in the practical artistic component of doctoral studies.
–Design and organize the teaching area.
–Collaborate interdisciplinarily with other artistic and theory departments within the university.
–Participate in and contribute to the development of research initiatives and projects at the university.
–Supervision of both on and off-campus student exhibition initiatives.
–Engage in the university’s self-governance bodies.
–Demonstrate a willingness to contribute to the internationalization of the university.
Qualifications
-Completed university degree in Fine Arts or comparable qualification
–Outstanding artistic accomplishments
–Several years of professional artistic practice
–Teaching experience and strong pedagogical skills
–Excellent interpersonal skills
–Strong international network
–Proficiency in English
The employment requirements according to Section 67, 68 HHG apply. For the advertised full-time position – with a teaching load of 18 hours per week—the appointment is initially limited to six years; a later conversion to a lifetime professorship is possible if the evaluation is successful. The full-time position is generally divisible (except for civil servants).
The HfG Offenbach is a German Language University, and although instruction can be purely in English, internal administrative communication is often in German.
