Application deadline: November 30, 2024
Encompassing the Africa Institute, GSU will continue to explore the histories, cultures, and peoples of various regions, with a special focus on the Global South.
Global Studies University (GSU), in Sharjah, UAE, has announced a master’s degree program in Global African Studies, its first program since its official establishment in 2023. Through this two-year course of study, students will pursue a program that offers three tracks in Afro-Arab Relations, Museum and Critical Heritage Studies, and Diplomacy and Africa’s International Relations. The Global African Studies master’s program is now open for admissions, with a deadline of November 30.
GSU, a postgraduate education and specialized research university and first of its kind in the region, launched in 2023 under formal decree to explore the histories, cultures, and peoples of various regions, with a special focus on the Global South. Beginning first with The Africa Institute established in 2018, GSU will expand with the Asia Institute in 2025 and will subsequently add institutes specializing in Oceania, Europe, and the Americas, further broadening the University’s global impact and deepening its commitment to interdisciplinary research and education. GSU’s MA programs are designed to deepen understanding and provide critical insights into Africa’s rich cultural, historical, and political landscapes. Additional offerings, including PhD programs, will be announced soon.
“With our inaugural MA program in Global African Studies and a forthcoming PhD program in Global Studies, we are equipping students with the tools to approach regional issues through a global lens. At the heart of our mission is a dedication to non-Western perspectives, the study of local languages, and intellectual exchange.”—said Salah Hassan, Chancellor of GSU and Dean of The Africa Institute.
“GSU embodies a long-standing vision. Each institute is dedicated to exploring regions often overlooked in traditional academic settings. Our mission is to serve as an interdisciplinary hub for critical engagement in global studies within the arts, humanities, and social sciences. We aim to produce new knowledge and nurture the next generation of critical thinkers who are equipped to address global complexities and interconnectedness.”—said Hoor Al Qasimi, President of GSU.
