With around 2,100 Bachelor and Master students, Zurich University of the Arts is one of the major and most diverse universities of the arts in Europe. The study and research programme covers the areas of art education, design, film, fine arts, music, dance, theatre and transdisciplinary studies. The Department of Fine Arts is looking to hire a Professor of Artistic Practice, 70 percent to start on April 1, 2025 (or by arrangement).
The newly hired professor in the area of “Post Internet Praxis” will shape the English-language Master’s Major in “Art:ificial Studies” (to be launched in 2025). The new major curriculum at the MA level is designed for students who are interested in the intersections of art, artificial intelligence technologies, and society.
As professor, in addition to your regular teaching and research duties, you will continuously develop the major’s curriculum in light of the department’s and ZHdK’s profile and mission statement. You feature a profile with an artistic and/or research-based examination of the experiences of reality generated by digital technologies and artificial intelligence and newly formed social structures.
You will position your teaching and research in the framework of domestic and international developments in the domain of contemporary art. You will ensure the quality of the major’s teaching offerings and manage the major on both the substantial and the organisational levels. We are looking to fill this position with an individual with an established artistic or curatorial practice in the field of contemporary art. The new professor’s workload will be distributed as follows: 30% in teaching, 20% in management and administrative tasks, and 20% in research.

Your qualifications:
–A university or academy degree at the PhD level in a relevant field
–An active and international artistic or curatorial practice in the field of post-internet, emergent technologies and artificial intelligences
–At least five years of teaching and research experience at art colleges or universities, academies, or similar institutions
–An international network in Higher Arts Education and Fine Arts
–Budget management experience
–Initiative and the ability to engage in dialogue, integrate into a new environment, and work in a team
–Willingness to work on committees
–Language skills: English (native or C2) and German (at least B2), in writing and speaking
–Workplace: Zurich
