The 12th edition of ART021 Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair returns to the Shanghai Exhibition Centre from 7th to 10th November, 2024. The VIP Preview takes place from 7th to 8th November.
A staggering 125 participating galleries, and special projects from 43 cities in 20 countries and regions, will be showcased at this year’s fair. ART021 2024 is set within the Galleries, APPROACH, public sector Beyond and Special Projects, where the notable sector Detour will return after two years.
With eleven successful editions, ART021 has maintained a high-level standard while staying open and inclusive to newcomers from the dynamic market. A total of 30 galleries will make their debut, including APALAZZO Gallery (Brecia), CARLOS/ISHIKAWA (London), Fergus McCaffrey (New York, Tokyo, St. Barts), Saatchi Yates (London), THE SHOPHOUSE (Hong Kong), X Contemporary Art (Changsha), ZIAN Gallery (Hangzhou). ART021 continues to attract around 20% of new participants and has, for many years, demonstrated its ongoing influence as a central communication hub for the Chinese contemporary art market.
Key international players who return to the main and largest sector—Galleries—include Almine Rech (Paris, New York, London, Brussels, Shanghai, Monaco), David Zwirner (New York, Los Angeles, London, Hong Kong, Paris), White Cube (London, Hong Kong, Paris, New York, Seoul), Mennour (Paris, London), to name a few. Within the sector, Four Corners, where four galleries from around the globe come together to present a joint booth including Dastan (Tehran), Fergus McCaffrey (New York, Tokyo, St. Barts), Kurimanzuttto(Mexico City, New York) and Madein Gallery (Shanghai).
Approach is dedicated to showcasing thriving galleries and unique projects from around the world. This year’s edition comprises 20 participating galleries from 9 countries, among which over half are first-time exhibitors. Remarkable galleries such as Inloco Dubai (Dubai), Kutlesa (Goldau), Palaty (Moscow), Gallery Seek (Tokyo) and ZieherSmith (New York) make their debut at a China art fair, highlighting their roles as rising trend setters and instilling new vigour into the fair.
With the theme of Asia and Its Diaspora, this year’s edition Detour is curated by Danielle Shang, brings together selective works by contemporary artists of Asian descent, collectively highlighting Asian and Asian diasporic artistic practices, and examining critical discourses and diverse issues through their specific lens. Participating galleries include Gaotai Gallery (Urumqi), Hua International (Berlin, Beijing), Lawrie Shabibi (Dubai), Micki Meng (San Francisco, New York), Tabula Rasa (Beijing, London) and Sans Titre (Paris).
