Following the success of the first Austrian Pavilion at the Gwangju Biennale in 2024 with artist Liesl Raff, an open call will be launched to select an artist-curator team for the 16th edition in 2026. Phileas will also continue its long-standing support of the Austrian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, assisting the choreographer and performance artist Florentina Holzinger in her preparations leading up to 2026.
Phileas produces an annual series of publications titled First Monographs, which provide the first comprehensive overview of the work of an Austrian or Austria-based artist and introduce them to an international audience. Following artists Sophie Thun, Christian Kosmas Mayer and Birke Gorm, the next monograph in 2025 will be dedicated to the work of sculptor Toni Schmale.
Our exhibition space in Vienna presents projects that were recently co-produced with biennials and institutions around the world. The three exhibitions that will be shown in 2025 are:

Phileas runs an active Visitor Programme that invites international curators and critics to Austria throughout the year to visit artists’ studios, galleries, museums, foundations, and artist-run spaces. We also organize annual curatorial exchanges with international partners; following successful collaborations in 2023 and 2024 with the Mondriaan Fonds, Netherlands, and Trampoline Association, Paris, France, respectively, our next exchange in November 2025 will be organized with the Office for Contemporary Art Norway (OCA).
In 2025, Phileas will continue its long-term initiative to support Art Writing through focused workshops, lectures, and public discussions. The programme seeks to identify and train aspiring writers, create new platforms and channels of communication, and foster dialogue on contemporary issues in art writing.
