PEAC Museum is pleased to present the first comprehensive institutional solo exhibition in Germany by Elodie Seguin (b. 1984 in Paris, where she lives and works). The exhibition showcases the artist’s multifaceted and genre crossing oeuvre. She has devised a unique exhibition layout for PEAC Museum that transforms each exhibition room into a new work, hereby referencing the architectural characteristics and conditions of each space.

In her geometric wall works, reliefs, objects and spatial installations, Seguin experiments with the interaction of colors, the spatial effect of contrasts and the interplay of light and transparency. The artist systematically dissects the relationship between form and color and changes the appearance of the colors through layering. Seguin’s artistic practice plays with the vocabulary of abstract painting and sculpture, without being categorised as either one or the other.  Her works appear pictorial and reject the dichotomy of abstraction and figuration.

While Seguin’s pared-down formal language, her exploration of color and the relationship between space, viewer and work show an affinity to Minimalist traditions and Monochrome Painting – which are central to the Paul Ege Art Collection – they represent a radically different, idiosyncratic approach: Her works are not fixed, static entities. They are created through the convergence of different elements for the moment of the exhibition, hereby retaining their potentiality.

The exhibition is curated by Lea Altner, who was appointed co-director of PEAC Museum in February 2023 together with Eveline Weber (currently on parental leave).

About PEAC Museum
The PEAC Museum is an exhibition venue for modern and contemporary art. The museum also houses the Paul Ege Art Collection (PEAC), one of Europe’s most comprehensive collections in the field of color painting, expanded by works of Minimalism and Conceptual Art. The museum is located in Freiburg on the premises of the Alexander Bürkle company, which is run by the fourth generation of the Ege family. Opened in 2004 under the name “Kunstraum Alexander Bürkle”, the exhibition space covers around 1,000 square meters. Since 2019, the former art space has been operating under the name PEAC Museum.

Admission is free.
