The 18th installment of Art Fair Tokyo, which began in 2005, was held over four days from March 7 (Thursday) to March 10 (Sunday), 2024 was a great success.
The fair was organized under the auspices of the Agency for Cultural Affairs, the embassies of 19 countries and 12 municipalities, and played an important role as an art fair supporting the art market as a reflection of society, not only as a place for buying and selling, but also as a place for exchange.
The total number of visitors over the four days was 55,015, with total exhibitor sales of JPY 3.28 billion (estimated from voluntary exhibitor surveys), exceeding the previous year’s results.
The fair was a remarkable achievement, with a wide range of exhibits from antiques to contemporary art, with some works valued at more than JPY 100 million a piece. A strong desire among visitors to make purchases illustrated the market’s resilience.
With financial markets unstable, it is difficult to predict the state of the art market for the coming year, but the Japanese art market continues to follow its US and European counterparts. For this reason, next year’s ART FAIR TOKYO is also expected to be robust.
Art Fair Tokyo 19 will be held at the Tokyo International Forum from March 7 (Friday) to March 9 (Sunday), 2025.
