Submissions for the 7th Lih Pao Sculpture Biennial Awards are being accepted until September 30. The finalists will be announced in November 2024, with the award ceremony scheduled for October 2025, where the winners will be revealed. This competition has already attracted participation from 1,152 artists across 63 countries, establishing itself as an international sanctuary for sculpture art. To encourage more artists to participate, Chairman Wu Bao-Tian of the Lih Pao Group has increased the total prize money from 80,000 USD in the previous edition to more 160,000 USD this year. He hopes to gather global elites and promote new talents in the art world. Chairman Wu Bao-Tian stated, “We hope this platform allows global artists to convey their deep emotions and unique perspectives on the world through their works, collectively exploring the innovation and development of sculpture art.”
The 7th Lih Pao Sculpture Biennial Awards is once again guided by the Ministry of Culture and co-organized with the Italian Economic, Trade and Cultural Promotion Office, combining artistic energy and passing the torch of new-century art. Representative Davide Giglio from the Italian Economic, Trade and Cultural Promotion Office remarked, “The Lih Pao Sculpture Biennial Awards has become one of the most popular awards among sculptors in Asia, symbolizing excellence, innovation, and relentless pursuit of art. It promotes cross-border cultural exchange and mutual understanding. Italy and Taiwan have also had many cooperative experiences over the years.”
This year’s judging panel includes renowned sculptors and artists from the UK, Japan, and Taiwan, such as contemporary British sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor, Japanese sculpture authorities Takamichi Ito and Izumi Hatano, as well as Taiwanese sculpture masters LAI Chi-Man and HAN Hsu-Tung. This international panel ensures professional and high-quality selection for the 7th Lih Pao Sculpture Biennial Awards.
The event also invites collaboration with the Department of Sculpture at National Taiwan University of Arts, the College of Fine Arts at Taipei National University of the Arts, and Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts in Japan. This collaboration aims to connect the academic world with diverse perspectives, ensuring the call for entries reaches a global audience and attracts artists worldwide. It also enhances Taiwan’s international stature and vision. All artists aged 18 and above are eligible to compete, with works primarily composed of materials suitable for long-term display. Sculptors from all fields are invited to participate in this grand event!
The Lih Pao Cultural Arts Foundation has been hosting the Lih Pao Sculpture Biennial Awards since 2011, aiming to stimulate the creativity of artists through international cultural exchange and integration. By making sculpture an integral part of architecture, it deepens people’s appreciation and understanding of the environment and space while highlighting the multifaceted role of sculpture in urban development. This fosters a modern cultural environment full of artistic atmosphere and vitality.
