We are happy to announce the launch of New Ear Inc., a new nonprofit organization dedicated to experimentation in time-based, interdisciplinary arts.
In celebration, we are hosting two events: a one-of-a-kind concert by the Heller Bassoon Ensemble on June 8, and the New Ear launch party on June 16. Both events will be held at Fridman Gallery, 169 Bowery, New York, NY.
About New Ear
Propelled by the energy and success of the annual New Ear Festival and the spatial-sound series CT::SWaM (Contemporary Temporary :: Sound Works and Music). New Ear Inc. is a nonprofit organization fostering experimentation in time-based media and interdisciplinary collaboration in New York City and beyond.
Equipped with a flexible performance space, an 8-channel listening room and a 4-channel-video black-box theater, New Ear offers artists access to workshops, mentorships, engineering support and commissions. Our expanding program includes performances, media installations and exhibitions. Building from the history of visual artists opening their homes and studios to musicians, dancers and poets, New Ear creates a space for spirited and radical experimentation, celebrating risk-taking, collaborations and community.
Our past programming has included historical artists, such as David Tudor, Pauline Oliveros, Alvin Lucier, Simone Forti, Robert Whitman, Fred Moten and William Parker, and outstanding younger performers such as Black Thought, Irreversible Entanglements, Lesley Flanigan, Stephen Vitiello, Yvette Janine Jackson, and Abigail Levine. We support and collaborate with prominent cultural organizations, including Issue Project Room, Wave Farm, The Kitchen, Pioneer Works, Public Records, Roulette Intermedium, and Abrons Arts Center.
