Please join us at Dia Chelsea for the New York launch of the first print issue of e-flux Index featuring presentations by e-flux contributor Christian Nyampeta and e-flux editors Serubiri Moses and Juliana Halpert. Brian Kuan Wood, Julieta Aranda, Hallie Ayres, and Anton Vidokle will introduce the evening.
e-flux Index is a new print journal surveying the breadth of contemporary culture through e-flux’s publishing on art, theory, architecture, film, criticism, activism, and art education. Published every two months, it interweaves long-form essays from e-flux Journal and e-flux Architecture, exhibition and book reviews from e-flux Criticism, discussions and contributions from both established and emerging voices in e-flux Education, and texts that expand the register of critical inquiry from e-flux Notes, compiling all the diverse and fascinating content commissioned by e-flux under one cover.
e-flux began its online publishing 25 years ago, in an era largely dominated by a handful of print periodicals. Since then, the publishing landscape has undergone a profound shift to a digital realm, which provides unprecedented access at the expense of ever-diminishing attention and memory. As a collectible and archivable bimonthly print volume drawing out new strains of cross-disciplinary knowledge to reveal the common concerns that unite today’s most vital and inquisitive writing, e-flux Index sets out to catalog and care for art’s historical and intellectual evolution in our own time—and for the future.
Christian Nyampeta will speak about recent contributions across e-flux, including his ongoing African Film Institute project, a screening series dedicated to African cinema that premiered at e-flux’s Screening Room in September 2023. Serubiri Moses, a contributing editor, will present upcoming projects that will form a thematic issue of e-flux Journal, while editor Juliana Halpert will give insights into e-flux Education’s editorial scope vis-à-vis the vast network of art practice and curatorial programs operating today.
e-flux Index is meta-edited by George MacBeth and designed by Remco van Bladel, with layout by Sixing Xu.
e-flux Index is available to purchase from e-flux.com, as well as in person at the launch. The first issue of e-flux Index is 420 pages and printed in full color by Maiadouro, with print design from Atelier d’Alves.
This program is co-presented by Dia Art Foundation and e-flux.
