Bergen Kunsthall is seeking an engaged, unifying, and visionary director to strengthen the institution’s position as a leading contemporary art venue locally, nationally, and internationally.
We are looking for someone who can foster a collaborative culture and a positive working environment through effective leadership. You will set the direction and develop and implement a clear strategy that will enhance Bergen Kunsthall’s status as a cultural and artistic centre in the city, as well as a key player in the international contemporary art scene.
The new director will lead the way in our work with audience development, thinking innovatively to create visitor experiences that reflect the diversity of society. The aim is to engage audiences with an uncompromising exhibition and learning programme. To succeed in this role, it is important to build and maintain relationships and networks in the field of contemporary art in Norway and internationally.
We are seeking a director with strong leadership skills and documented curatorial experience within the field of contemporary art. You have a proven track record working with strategy and organisational development and possess a basic understanding of finance and can secure funding from both private and public sources. Our new director will play a key role in maintaining a sustainable economy for Bergen Kunsthall.
In your day-to-day work, you will lead a highly competent, interdisciplinary, and creative staff, all of whom are passionate about delivering art and cultural experiences to an engaged audience. An essential part of the job is to maximize the potential of each employee. At Bergen Kunsthall, you collaborate with dedicated and competent colleagues with a strong professional background linked to various aspects of the institution’s operations.
You are motivated to represent and present Bergen Kunsthall, and you are capable of, or interested in learning to communicate effectively in a Scandinavian language as well as in English.

About Bergen Kunsthall
Bergen Kunsthall is a centre for contemporary art that presents exhibitions and events featuring international and Norwegian artists. The institution takes a global, interdisciplinary, and diverse approach, exploring issues that shape and inspire us as individuals and society, rooted in a local context and with a global perspective. We aim to be a clear voice in society and contribute to setting the agenda. The Kunsthall hosts seven exhibitions and 170 events annually, with its own bookshop and a total of 35 staff members. The institution was established as Bergens Kunstforening in 1838 and is now a membership organization with 755 members. Since 1935, we have been located in our own building in the heart of Bergen city centre.
