The following professorship is to be filled at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG) as soon as possible:

Professorship for Art Research and Media Theory specialising in “Political and Social Aesthetics” W3 (66 percent, limited up to six years).

The professorship focuses on an expanded notion of political philosophy that include a media dimension, which is extended by a media dimension in addition to the specific profile of the university. The professorship aims to analyse contemporary forms of sociability and their effects on forms of global communication and is designed to question and go beyond the established canon of Western media philosophy. It is in transdisciplinary exchange with the fields of design and art and works together with the neighbouring Zentrum für Kunst und Medien (ZKM).

We are looking for an academically outstanding, internationally networked and experienced personality who can represent the field of the professorship in teaching and research and provide intellectual impulses for the further development of the university

The tasks of the professorship include:
–Teaching and research in the subject area described above;
–Supervision of students on the Master’s degree programme in Art Studies & Media Philosophy, supervision of doctoral students and involvement in postgraduate study formats;
–Supervising students of practical subjects in art and design up to the diploma level;
–Collaboration in the programme planning and further development of the HfG curriculum.
–A willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies is a prerequisite. Further official duties are regulated in Section 46 of the Landeshochschulgesetz Baden-Württemberg (Baden-Württemberg State Higher Education Act).

Requirements:
–Completion of a university degree in Philosophy or a related, relevant subject area
–Special qualification for academic work and teaching, which is usually demonstrated by a doctorate and habilitation; instead of a habilitation, comparable academic achievements can also be recognised
–Relevant academic publications in the field of the professorship
–Knowledge of German and English at university level
