Dirimart is proud to announce that Materials of Mind Theatre by İnci Eviner will be showcased at Frieze Sculpture 2024, set in The Regent’s Park. This year’s edition of Frieze Sculpture, curated by Fatoş Üstek, will open three weeks before Frieze London.
Eviner’s installation Materials of Mind Theatre merges sculpture with performance to create a dynamic mental theatrical experience, featuring ceramic sculptures arranged on a platform that acts as a stage and a pedestal. The work invites the audience to craft their own narratives with their imagination, inspired by ambiguous yet evocative sculptures.
We observe the freedom dance of the body and confrontation, which stands against ideological body representations and tries to get rid of the burden of political identity imposed upon it.
In this transformative space, regular live performances titled Under One Body will take place. The performance begins with mobilising a flexible costume replicating arms, legs, and hands. The artist notes, “This performance, for me, explores how blurred the boundary between the animate and the inanimate can be, and this ambiguity dances on that indistinct boundary, opening the doors to a world where different existences are possible.” The interaction between the performance and the sculptures blurs the lines between the animate and inanimate, making it an inspiring work of art for both theatre and sculpture.
İnci Eviner’s moving image works, produced with a limitless visual language that she constantly enriches, examine historical, discursive, and unconscious processes while questioning and challenging the norms that create forms of representation. In her works, Eviner brings together the intersections of history and violence. She combines various social and psychic layers through scenarios, attempting to decode the codes of power with figures emerging from an awry fantasy world.
