The Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin) is one of the world’s leading art universities with a long tradition. It is an important partner in Berlin’s network of culture, art and science and artistic activities in Berlin. More than 200 professors, around 250 employees in art and sciences, and around 300 employees in administration, libraries, service and technology work at the UdK Berlin. More than 4,000 students (30 percent of them international) are enrolled in over 70 degree programmes at the four colleges of Fine Arts/Architecture, Media and Design/Music, and Performing Arts, as well as at the Central Institute for Continued Education (ZIW), the Inter-University Centre for Dance (HZT) and the Jazz Institute Berlin (JIB). The UdK Berlin offers teacher education programmes in the subjects of Fine Arts, Music and Theatre/Performing Arts. The UdK Berlin is one of the few art colleges in Germany with the right to confer doctorates and post-doctoral qualifications.

Through the diverse activities of its members, the institution contributes to a culture of exchange with Berlin’s civil society and the global audience that is both artistically and academically guided. Its institutional understanding of a relevant practice within the arts and sciences draws upon a dialogue with the social, political, technological and artistic challenges of the 21st century.

The UdK Berlin, College of Architecture, Media and Design – Institute of Time-Based Media, is seeking to appoint a:

Professor at a university of arts (m/f/d)
Salary group W 2. In permanent part-time professorship with a three quarters’ regular teaching obligation. The professorship is based on salaried employment, not on civil servant law.

Field of teaching: Time-based art with contemporary technologies
Teaching obligation: 13.5 course hours (LVS)

Start of service of the professorship: April 1, 2025

Duties the open position offers
–Research and teaching in the above-mentioned subject; focus areas of the position encompass fields, such as Expanded Realities, Al-based art forms, Computational/Expanded photography, Biomimetic Art, Robotic Art, research in sustainable systems, simulated ecosystems and hybrid concepts
–Teaching of artistic approaches to contemporary technologies; artistic and theoretical analysis of political, social, economic contexts with regard both to exercise of power and structural discrimination and to goals, such as democratisation, fairness and sustainability
–Interdisciplinary and project-oriented work as well involvement in the organisation of the degree programme 
–Involvement in the academic self-administration/committee work

Requirements
–An outstanding artistic personality and a university degree in the arts (Master or equivalent qualification) in a related field of teaching
–Proof of several years of internationally acclaimed, independent, artistic professional experience
–Proof of teaching experience at art colleges
–An in-depth theoretical and practical understanding of technological processes in the time-based arts
–Appointment requirements in accordance with § 100 of Berlin Act on Higher Education (BerlHG)
