Fabrica, a renaissance-inspired research center situated 30 km from Venice, Italy, occupies a 17th-century villa renovated and expanded by Japanese architect Tadao Ando. Each semester, approximately 20 artists and creators, aged 25 or under, are carefully chosen from around the globe to engage in speculative and experimental research related to a specific theme. This involves a dynamic interplay across various disciplines like photography, design, film, music/sound, writing, digital media and fine arts.
Known for its legacy of instigating social change through a cross-cultural approach, Fabrica offers an immersive program featuring lectures, workshops, seminars, concerts, and the development of individual research projects. The culmination of these efforts results in a final live exhibition at the conclusion of each semester. The present program is under the direction of Carlos Casas, an artist, filmmaker, and former resident of Fabrica.
The upcoming semester’s theme revolves around Kinship, aiming to explore innovative practices of entanglement and connectivity between humans and non-humans. The objective is to forge unconventional bonds and gain insights into novel forms of symbiotic connections transcending traditional boundaries and expanding notions of community and social structures.
During the next semester thirty former Fabrica artists-in-residence of different generations will return to Fabrica to participate in the program with a series of encounters, workshops, lectures, concerts and special events. A celebration of an extended family that continues to grow, the program will welcome back former Fabrica artists and creators; Angela Melitopoulos, Bill Morrison, Adam Broomberg, Dryden Goodwin, Txema Salvans, Jaime Hayon, Batman Zavareze, Gabriela Gomez-Mont, Nico Vascellari, Sasha Huber and Petri Saarikko, Deborah Latouche, Theresa Wong, Damien Poulain, Pieter Hugo, Joy Frempong, Saodat Ismailova, Jonathan Harris, William Barton, Andy Rementer, Lorenzo Vitturi, David O’Reilly, Miren Marañon, Patrick Waterhouse, Laia Abril, Ekene Bones-Ijeoma, Fanqiuao Wang, Anna Kulachek, Laura Sans, Ava Rasti and Duc Uy Tran.
