Frame Contemporary Art Finland is happy to present a new publication, Falling In: Movement and Becoming in Curatorial Research, published in collaboration with Mousse Publishing.
Falling In: Movement and Becoming in Curatorial Research gathers curators from various geographical locations to open up and discuss their methods, motives, and aims for conducting research in the field of curating. They delve into the depths of their work, encompassing its performative, educational, historical, affective, bodily, activist, and collective aspects.
Published in the context of the Frame Curatorial Research Fellowship, Falling In includes contributions from Ama Josephine Budge, Diana Campbell, Sonia D’Alto, Léuli Eshrāghi, Satu Herrala and Eva Neklyaeva, Initiative for Practices and Visions of Radical Care in collaboration with Anaïs Lepage, Miguel A. López, Nikolay Smirnov, and TOK (Creative Association of Curators, Anna Bitkina and Maria Veits). It is edited by Dahlia El Broul, Ksenia Kaverina and Jussi Koitela.
Frame’s four-year programme for contemporary art curators explores new forms of research that reimagine curatorial and institutional working habits. Along with its partners, Casco Art Institute (Utrech), EVA International (Limerick), Van Abbemuseum (Eindhoven), and the Queens Museum (New York), Frame has hosted four fellows between 2021 and 2024.
Instead of focusing on curating or exhibiting research, this book explores the motivations, inscapes, and potentials of curatorial research from a variety of perspectives. Falling In aims to map its different locations, contexts, stakeholders, temporalities, and materialities, ultimately becoming an exercise in liberating notions of what research can be.
“Through their diverse perspectives and experiences, the authors shed light on distinct aspects of their approaches, offering insight into research’s transformative power and its capacity to bridge gaps between traditional knowledge paradigms and unconventional or interdisciplinary applications,” the editors describe.
The launch event of the publication will be held on Thursday, February 22, 4–8pm at Kohta Kunsthalle in Helsinki. It includes an introduction to the book, along with presentations from the book’s contributors. See the programme of the launch event and other information here.
Frame Curatorial Research Fellowship and the publication are supported by the Kone Foundation.
