About the position
There is a vacancy at the Art and Craft department for a full-time position (1.0 FTE) as professor/associate professor in the discipline of textile art. The department’s programmes seek to incorporate not only the discipline’s history but also current trends in contemporary art.
The Art and Craft department aims to explore and develop material-based art and participate in the contemporary art discourse. The position is for a fixed term of 6 years.
The discipline of textile art
The discipline of textile art trains textile artists at a high international level. By specialising in textile techniques in the department’s workshops and engaging in contextualization through critical thinking and reflection, students acquire a basis for establishing their own practices in the field of contemporary art.
The teaching is based on wide-ranging textile experiences, such as traditions, materials, techniques and methods, both in contemporary art in particular and in material culture in general. The department’s staff develop the teaching in an ongoing dialogue with relevant actors from a broadly conceived field of art.
The discipline offers teaching in both analogue and digital tools in the main workshops for fabric printing and weaving, and also facilitates research-based investigations within a broad field of textiles.
Tasks
The position involves being artistically and educationally in charge of developing and overseeing the discipline at the Art and Craft department, with a focus on quality, renewal and reflection. The work includes coordinating the academic resources in the discipline as well as the teaching, supervision and artistic research. The position also includes budgetary responsibility and administrative work. It is expected that the successful applicant will participate in the professional discourse and help profile the Academy within the field both nationally and internationally.
Duties include teaching, supervision, artistic research, administration and financial responsibility. It is expected that the teaching will be closely linked to the instructor’s own artistic and academic research. The immediate supervisor for the position is the dean, who is both academically and administratively in charge of the department’s operations.
