Kota Ezawa: The California Studio

Kota Ezawa is a Bay Area based artist known for creating video, animations, and lightboxes. In 2021, his work was featured in a solo exhibition at the Georgia Museum of Art. Ezawa has received a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award, a SECA Art Award from SFMOMA, and a Eureka Fellowship. Ezawa is the spring quarter visiting professor in The California Studio: Manetti Shrem Artist Residencies. Co-sponsored by the Manetti Shrem Museum.
Maria Maea

Maria Maea is a multidisciplinary visual artist. Through her art practice, she deepens her connection to land, somatic memory, and ancestry. Maea’s work investigates and celebrates growing up in Southern California in her family’s Samoan Mexican American community. Her work was included in Made in L.A. 2023: Acts of Living.
Tania Candiani: The California Studio

Tania Candiani is an interdisciplinary visual artist whose work explores the intersection of art, literature, music, architecture, science, and labor. Her work has been exhibited internationally. She has received the Guggenheim Fellowship in the Arts and the Smithsonian Institution Research Grant for Artists, amongst others. Candiani is the spring quarter spotlight artist in The California Studio: Manetti Shrem Artist Residencies. Co-sponsored by the Manetti Shrem Museum.

About Art Studio at UC Davis
Art Studio at UC Davis challenges students to cultivate curiosity and sustain the courage to embrace the unknown through art. Arts students at the undergraduate and graduate level are encouraged to explore a broad range of disciplines and to participate in opportunities outside the classroom, including the Art Studio Visiting Artist Lecture Series, the Betty Jean and Wayne Thiebaud Lecture Series, The California Studio: Manetti Shrem Artist Residencies, professional practice seminars, student exhibitions, competitions and internships. The department supports 16 fully funded MFA students and attracts students from all over the United States and the world.
