Helen Molesworth: Betty Jean and Wayne Thiebaud Endowed Lecture Series

Helen Molesworth is a writer and a curator based in Los Angeles. She is the host of Dialogues: The David Zwirner podcast and the writer and host of the podcast Death of an Artist. Awards include a Bard Center for Curatorial Studies Award for Curatorial Excellence, a Guggenheim Fellowship and The Clark Art Writing Prize. Co-sponsored by the Manetti Shrem Museum.
Josiah McElheny: The California Studio

Josiah McElheny is an expert glassblower whose installations, sculpture, paintings, and films engage with the history of his medium and the history of ideas. He has received numerous awards, including a MacArthur Fellowship, the 15th Rakow Commission at the Corning Museum of Glass, and a Louis Comfort Tiffany Award. McElheny has exhibited widely. He is the winter quarter spotlight artist in residence in The California Studio: Manetti Shrem Artist Residencies. Co-sponsored by the Manetti Shrem Museum.
Kang Seung Lee: Art Studio Visiting Artist Lecture Series

Kang Seung Lee is a multidisciplinary artist who was born in South Korea and now lives and works in Los Angeles. His work frequently engages the legacy of transnational queer histories, particularly as they intersect with art history. He is a recipient of numerous awards and fellowships, including the 2023 Angeles Art Fund Artadia Award and the MacDowell Fellowship. Supported by the UC Davis College of Letters and Science and co-sponsored by the Manetti Shrem Museum.

Art Studio at UC Davis challenges students to cultivate curiosity and sustain the courage to embrace the unknown through art. Arts students at the undergraduate and graduate level are encouraged to explore a broad range of disciplines and to participate in opportunities outside the classroom, including the Art Studio Visiting Artist Lecture Series, the Betty Jean and Wayne Thiebaud Lecture Series, The California Studio: Manetti Shrem Artist Residencies, professional practice seminars, student exhibitions, competitions and internships. The department supports 16 fully funded M.F.A. students and attracts students from all over the United States and the world.
