In 2018 Fundación MAPFRE added 175 works by the Chilean photographer Paz Errázuriz (born Santiago, Chile, 1944) to its collections after organizing the first retrospective on the artist in Spain. The present exhibition, now being shown as the annual event within the KBr’s program devoted to our Collections, comprises a rigorous selection of these photographs, including some of the artist’s best known series, such as “Adam’s Apple” and “Heart Attack of the Soul”, together with other representative works from the 1970s to the present.
Paz Errázuriz lives and works in Chile. In 1995 she received the Ansel Adams Prize, awarded by the Chilean North American Institute of Culture, and in 2005 the Artistic Career Award from the Chilean Art Critics Club. In 2014 the artist received the Pablo Neruda Order of Merit and the PHotoEspaña Prize in 2015, the year in which she also represented Chile at the Venice Biennial. In 2017 Errázuriz was awarded the National Prize for the Visual Arts in Chile.
Co-founder of the Association of Independent Photographers and a contributor to Apsi magazine and various press agencies, Paz Errázuriz has received Guggenheim (1986), Fundación Andes (1990), Fulbright (1992) and Fondart (1994, 2009 and 2018) grants.
Errázuriz’s work is represented in major collections such as the Daros Latinamerica Collection in Zurich, Tate London, the MoMA and the Guggenheim Museum, New York, the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Santiago, Chile, and the above-mentioned collections of Fundación MAPFRE.
