For the 18th time, museum M and STUK, House for Dance, Image & Sound, are joining forces to organise the international performance festival Playground.
The artists in this year’s festival: Ferenc Balcaen, Raven Chacon, Yael Davids, Jean-Charles de Quillacq, DD Dorvillier, Coraline Guilbeau, Reyhan Lál, Violaine Lochu, Linda Jasmin Mayer, Peter Morrens with Lionel Marchetti & Jérôme Noetinger, Diederik Peeters, Bosse Provoost & Ezra Veldhuis, Anthony van Gog, An Verstraete, BREAKFASTCLUB
For four days, visitors will be immersed in an exciting mix of performance and visual art. Playground provides a platform for artists who do not commit to one discipline, artists working at the interface between stage and visual arts. Within the programme of this unique arts festival, installations, film, tours and choreography merge into challenging performances that bring objects and bodies together. Playground is a haven for encounters and experimentation. Artists explore new forms and reflect on art, the world, and our place within it. Often new work, always exciting. This year includes a BREAKFASTCLUB on Friday morning.
During this edition of Playground, DD Dorvillier brings a new chapter in her ‘Catalogue of Steps’. She grants you access to her collection of 300 dance fragments through live performances, reference cards and video clips. Yael Davids revisits a performance on language and resistance, which she previously performed at Playground but is very topical today. Violaine Lochu brings an eco-feminist fable of a self-sustaining community of octopus women. Anthony van Gog explores the bodily limits to the tone of an intense bass soundscape. Reyhan Lál creates a precise choreography with shadow and a puppet. Coraline Guilbeau explores the limits of perception and plays with the gaze from the museum to the city. Diederik Peeters investigates the history of psychiatry. Bosse Provoost & Ezra Veldhuis create an area where the everyday modes of seeing and thinking are left behind. Jean-Charles de Quillacq gives a one-to-one experience in exchange for a moulding of your nose. The bird-figures of Linda Jasmin Mayer descend on the museum rooms of M. Ferenc Balcaen immerses you in a desolate and dark inferno. An Verstraete creates her own museum based on her collages, in the entrance hall of M. And Peter Morrens invites Lionel Marchetti and Jérôme Noetinger for an improvised live set.
Curators: Eva Wittocx (M), Lore Boon (M), Steven Vandervelden (STUK)
