Description
The School of Architecture at Pratt Institute, an internationally recognized professional school offering BArch, MArch and MS degrees, invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in the Department of Undergraduate Architecture. We seek a full-time tenure track faculty member at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor who can assume a leadership role in the Department’s core curriculum (specifically Integrated Design), as a motivated design studio instructor with an interest in shaping architectural curriculum and pedagogy. The ideal candidate will have the ability to support our curriculum in advanced fabrication and emerging construction technologies as well as understand that the future of our built environment and construction techniques address the rapid effects of climate change on the future of architecture and cities. The appointment is scheduled to begin in August 2024.
About the School of Architecture
The Pratt Institute School of Architecture (SoA) educates future leaders in the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, urban and community planning, construction and facilities management, real estate practice, environmental management, historic preservation, and urban placemaking. We see the design, planning, and management of the built environment as tools for addressing the critical issues of our time—including social justice and the climate crisis. Position responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
–Teach studios and required seminars in the core areas of the curriculum;
–Develop and coordinate courses with a focus on material practice, building fabrication technologies, emerging climate change needs toward sustainable architecture and site design.
–Lead and communicate specific curricular goals to faculty and students as an academic coordinator.
–Serve on departmental, school, and institute-wide committees.
–Participate in program accreditation.
–Advise and mentor students.
–Provide outreach efforts and participate in initiatives, including working closely with the Undergraduate Chair to promote interdisciplinary applications of core lessons into the design studio.
–Participate in scholarship/research/publications/conferences, etc. in the field.
–Perform all other related activities as required.
Qualifications
–A master’s degree and professional degree in architecture is required. Professional licensure is preferred.
–Applicants should demonstrate expertise in architectural design, building practice and design research as well as one or more of the following: building and environmental systems technology, and digital fabrication (including robotics & CNC machining) at various scales applied to studio problems.
–At least three years’ teaching experience at the college level and at least three years’ professional experience are also required. Favorable consideration will be given to candidates with a strong commitment to advanced design, professional practice, with an emphasis on sustainability, and digital fabrication, as well as recognized scholarship in the field of design as evidenced by a distinguished record of publication, exhibition, teaching, and practice.
