Festival: “you’re doing amazing sweetie”
Exploring the horror of content, transmediale 2024 “you’re doing amazing sweetie” questions how logics of content production determine and frustrate our relations to technology. Inspired by the reality of reality TV, the festival investigates how we perform online as living content. The transmediale drama unfolds across two venues—Season 1 and 2 in silent green Kulturquartier and the Reunion in Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW). The three-day festival programme features performances, conversations, film screenings, and exhibitions.

Group show: this is perfect, perfect, perfect
Content is everywhere. Content is Queen. Content is an endless stream of non-stop corporate cringe, toxic masculinity, cutified warfare, holistic health advice, sexualized bodies, and junk. Bedrooms act as studios, bathrooms are stages, life is increasingly content—but do we consume content or does content consume us? Dissecting the hyperbolic, sensational, and often anxiety-inducing images and narratives on our screens, this is perfect, perfect, perfect grinds on the seamless smooth shiny surface, cracking it open to reveal the toxic operations and logics of content, its production, and dissemination. The festival’s main exhibition brings together 13 artists and takes place at Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien.

Exhibition: Uncensored Lilac
Commissioned for transmediale 2024, Uncensored Lilac is an exhibition by Bassam Issa Al-Sabah and Jennifer Mehigan telling a story about revenge and desire. The artists transform the transmediale studio into the fantasy world of a group of goddesses’ and their peers. Set in a dreamlike hallucinatory landscape that constantly mutates, the assembly has been invaded and altered by the toxicity of climate crisis. The exhibition presents a new CGI film alongside a series of 3D prints, paintings, and sculptures. The goddesses speech is written by Mehigan and performed by an AI voice, as the characters, created by Issa Al-Sabah, speak about their relationship to the land, femininity, and isolation.
The 2024 edition of transmediale is curated by Nóra Ó Murchú, artistic director of transmediale, in collaboration with Elise Misao Hunchuck, Lorena Juan, Nadim Choufi, and Yasemin Keskintepe. The festival is produced by the transmediale team.
