Housed within one of the most respected research universities in the United States, the MFA program at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Art is a three-year, interdisciplinary, experimental program that provides its students with a challenging and supportive context in which to expand and develop their work and thinking as artists. Ranked among the top ten graduate programs in art by US News and World Report, the program views artmaking as a vital social, critical, and intellectual pursuit.

Register for a virtual open house on November 16 at 11:30am ET here. Other virtual and in person visit opportunities can be found here.

The MFA cohort, limited to 18 students, works with highly active faculty members who possess a diverse set of expertise. Four core faculty members—along with the School of Art’s additional 18 full-time faculty—provide extensive support and mentorship for each student. In addition, graduate students have myriad opportunities for critique and studio visits with national and international visiting artists, curators, and critics.

Opened in 2020, the dedicated graduate facility provides each student with a large, individual, naturally-lit studio, as well as common study and community areas. In addition, students have access to School’s many state-of-the-art facilities, encompassing both traditional and new media.

The MFA program’s three-year structure allows students ample opportunity to experiment, take risks, conduct research, and explore all that a research university has to offer. All students, regardless of their background or citizenship status, receive generous, guaranteed financial support in the form of partial or full tuition scholarships.

Applications for fall 2024 are due January 16, 2024. For more information, visit here.
