The Measure of our Traveling Feet centers on the social and cultural impact of migration. What happens when you cross the border? Who do you meet en route, and what do you leave behind? The artists featured in the exhibition reflect upon a society in the process of being transformed by widespread migration. Several works stress the physical activity of movement; the body is emphasized as an instrument for the exploration and appropriation of space. Other works invite the audience to share their personal experiences about the subject. Yet others make sentiments of homesickness and the confusion of arriving in a new place tangible, for instance by documenting the stories of individual migrants. Finally, there are works that examine notions including “territory,” “home” and “identity” in a society that is changing due to increased mobility.
The Measure of our Traveling Feet features an extensive educational program.
The exhibition is curated by Claire van Els and Laura Mudde.
The Measure of our Traveling Feet is financially supported by The Art of Impact, Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds, Mondriaan Fund and the Romanian Cultural Institute in Brussels.
