Since its opening in 1984, Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art (UNESCO World Heritage Site), the first contemporary art museum in Italy and home to an important Arte Povera collection, has promoted art and culture as fundamental tools for understanding our era, stimulating the social and civil growth of the region in which it operates thanks to the participation of a local and international public. In addition to collecting and exhibiting works of art, the museum is a center for creativity, research, education and the development of culture in the field of contemporary art, by reflecting on the present through a dynamic relationship with the past. The museum is housed in an historic Savoy royal palace in the town of Rivoli, outside Turin.
The position offered begins January 1, 2024 and the Director will be employed on a five-year contract basis.
The Director, selected by a pool of internationally recognised experts in the field of contemporary art, is appointed by the Board of Directors based on the recommendations of a Selecting Committee which will be nominated after the final date for submitting applications, July 15, 2023 at 11:59pm CET.
The Director’s primary goal is to design, promote and direct the museum’s artistic initiatives and programs within the financial framework set out by the Board of Directors.
The Director must have specific and proven international experience in the field of contemporary art and in the management of museums or similar important cultural institutions.
In particular, the Director:
–designs and draws up yearly and multi-year activity programs;
–oversees the development and care of the permanent collection;
–supervises the organisation of exhibitions, conferences and seminars;
–invites Italian and international guests to participate in the museum’s activities, whose presence and teaching can contribute to the achievement of the museum’s mission;
–must speak and write fluent Italian and English.
Furthermore the Director manages staff, including curatorial, education, communication and financial administration and participates in fund-raising. The Director also oversees conservation of the historic castle.
