The Art Students League of New York is now accepting applications for its 2023 scholarships and grants.
For over a century, the League has helped emerging artists to gain access to a high-quality education. The scholarships and grants have covered the cost of tuition and provided funds to supplement the education of thousands of League students. The goal of the League’s scholarships and grants are to provide new and greater opportunities to artists who need them. Past recipients of League scholarships include Norman Rockwell, James Rosenquist, and Tshabalala Self, among others.
The League’s scholarships are open to current and incoming students. Additional requirements must be met for grant applications, including a requirement for course hours. A full listing of requirements can be found on the League’s website.
Applicants are reviewed by a panel of judges, unaffiliated with the League, who each represent an important and unique perspective on artmaking, fine arts education, and the art world at large. The 2023 panel of jurors includes Jules Arthur, Marc Dennis, Samantha Friedman, Caroline Gillaspie, Melissa Ho, Michael Joo, Ryan McGinniss, Bill Saylor, Amy Smith Stewart, and Christina Weyl.
All applications are due by May 14. Jurors will review all applications in June and winners will be announced shortly after.
The Art Students League of New York has been making high-quality, studio-based art education accessible to all since 1875. At the Art Students League of New York, students are empowered to design their own curriculum, learn at their own pace, and choose from an unmatched selection of atelier-style classes in painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, and more. There are no entrance requirements or examinations and no previous art experience is needed to begin taking classes. Our ongoing lineage of accomplished instructors is matched only by our legacy of extraordinary students. Artists who have studied or taught at the League include Georgia O’Keeffe, Robert Rauschenberg, Louise Bourgeois, Norman Lewis, Yayoi Kusama, and many others.
