Copenhagen Architecture Festival 2023
June 1–11, 2023
Bringing life into focus, Copenhagen Architecture Festival (CAFx) is ready to celebrate its tenth anniversary with an eleven-day program centered around the theme “Life Form”.
June 1–11, more than one hundred events will be germinating across the Danish capital city, rethinking the relationship between form and life through new narratives, metaphors and models of architecture and architectural production. With three exhibitions—one held at CAFx’s own exhibition space on Halmtorvet 27—talks, film screenings, lectures, seminars, debates, sound performances, on-site projects, guided tours, public installations, digital initiatives and more, Scandinavia’s largest architecture event will place social and environmental justice at the center of architecture’s conversation.
CAFx 2023 is developed with the intention of destabilizíng the modernist paradigm underlying spatial practice and of encouraging a necessary re-reading of our buildings as habitats, our cities as ecosystems and our architects as facilitators and advisors. Rooted in concepts such as regenerative design, bio-inclusive biomimetics, symbiotic co-creation, architectural asceticism and do-ocracy, Life Form is an urgent invitation to re-orient your architectural imagination in the age of natural crises.
Program highlights include the exhibition Coastal Imaginaries– Currents from Venice to Copenhagen, a satellite exhibition of the Danish contribution to the Venice Architecture Biennale, exploring nature-based design solutions to changing coastal landscapes; the lecture/film series Disabled Lives, Disabling Forms, focusing on the intersection between disability, architecture, and cinema culture introduced by distinguished architect and architectural theorist David Gissen; The Garden, film-and-lecture-series dedicated to garden cultures, exploring their materiality, politics, eroticism, and mythology; and much more.
