argos is excited to present From Signal To Decay: Volume 4, British composer and audiovisual artist Trevor Mathison’s first solo exhibition in Belgium.
Mathison is a founding member of the legendary multimedia arts initiative Black Audio Film Collective, for which he established a sonic language that incorporates elements of dub, musique concrète, and industrial music. Alongside these activities he also produced a vibrant body of work as an individual artist.
From Signal To Decay: Volume 4 presents a unique constellation of mostly new works in a variety of media, ranging from a site-specific sound installation to digital prints, videos, and mixed media installations. Through these works, Mathison focuses on the ways in which sound travels—and consecutively disintegrates—in space, while revealing the socio-political layers of this process.
The exhibition touches on some of the historical and colonial entanglements connected to the argos building, while simultaneously highlighting Mathison’s critical vision on sound and its discursive possibilities.
More info about the exhibition and its accompanying public programme here.
From Signal To Decay: Volume 4 is curated by Appau Jnr Boakye-Yiadom and Oliver Fuke, with Niels Van Tomme. The project, which is ongoing, originated at CCA Goldsmiths in London in 2022.
