Dear reader,

Donna Haraway reminds us to be mindful of the tools we use for thinking, storytelling, and describing, since they shape our perceptions, thoughts, and experiences of reality, which in turn shape the narratives we construct.

As a publication that has been at the forefront of contemporary art discourse for the past seventeen years—thanks to its expansive network of artists, writers, and editors, and a committed audience of professionals and enthusiasts—Mousse is further reinforcing its standing as a significant presence in contemporary art and culture, and above all as an instrument for shaping those narratives.

Set to launch on June 12 (with Mousse #84—Summer 2023), we are thrilled to announce the restyling of Mousse. Additional information about forthcoming launches and associated discussions to mark the magazine’s relaunch will be communicated to you in the weeks ahead.

Mousse sets itself apart for advancing precise and timely perspectives on artists’ practices and their profound implications in the present moment. Its new form will feature a reinforced emphasis on textuality and critical thinking. These emblematic aspects of its identity will be adapted as part of an even more engaging format.

To the existing sections (surveys, monographs, thematic essays, short profiles, fiction and book reviews) we are introducing three new columns that reflect this vision:

Thinkers: Devoted to influential thinkers who are shaping contemporary art discourse and theory, the column examines the resonance of an author’s vision in contemporary culture.

Criticism: With the involvement of an overarching editor appointed on a yearly basis, this column offers an arena to stimulate discourse and encourage conversation. Focusing on critical analysis and art criticism, it addresses pressing themes relevant to the ever-evolving landscape of contemporary art.

Reprint: Reviving and recirculating foundational texts selected by an invited guest, the column spans critical theory and artist writings that are no longer readily available in the distribution network. It gives new life to important and influential texts whose ideas continue to echo in present discourse.

As part of these developments, a comprehensive redesign will be undertaken to visually convey the spirit of the editorial changes. The new, cohesive design language will complement and enhance content while providing readers with an even more visually impactful experience.

Mousse will also place significant emphasis on strengthening its distribution network through partnerships with the many international events that constellate our agendas, and by building an ever broader and more diverse geographical reach.

We are immensely grateful for your continued support and look forward to embarking on this new chapter with you. Thank you for being an essential part of our journey.

Yours,
Mousse
